Tonight I am in a particularly good mood. As I was walking through the parking lot of a local amusement park this evening, I heard the amazing and wonderful music of some gorgeous (even if tone-deaf) children, reveling in favorite Christmas carols. It's not Thanksgiving yet, but let me tell you: these kids are welcoming the holidays with gusto. They didn't know all the words to most songs they sang, but filled in the blanks with energetic,"...and la la la la la...." occasionally. Funny. Endearing. Affirming.... and what was even more wonderful? They didn't care. They didn't care if the words were right. They didn't care if they hit the right notes. They didn't care who was watching. They were just singing for the love of singing and it was wonderful. As an adult, I don't know that I can even remember a time when I enjoyed anything as much as these children enjoyed their songs, and with such heartwarming reckless abandon.
So here's to you, Angels, first Carolers of Christmas. Thanks for the songs. I hope your Christmas is just as wonderful.
