Sugar Cone: A Very Sweet Product

We all know the feeling: you’ve spent hours looking for the right gift, something amazing, well-thought out… something perfect. If you’re like me, buying gifts for children is even more challenging… Most of the ones I know already have everything I might consider buying them. Unique gifts are not easy to find.

Yet, it’s just possible that I’ve found the very thing for all the kids on my list: Introducing Sugar Cone, a new company with a great idea. I stumbled upon Sugar Cone when I began an online chat with friend an old high school classmate, and Sugar Cone’s co-owner, Jessica Hofheimer. Hofheimer and her business partner, Debbie Anguizola, are dishing up some fun, functional artwork that kids and parents will both love.

They call their product “Sugar Cone,” an ice-cream inspired growth chart that features fun flavors heaped one atop the other. Charts are hand-painted and embellished. At 5' tall x 9" wide, they are coated with a clear protective finish that wipes off easily, and they’re a great addition to any child’s room (or perfect next to the back door). Every chart is unique, based on the new owner’s favorite 14 flavors and a custom background. They can also be customized with your child’s name.

Freelance Writing: Why It's So Satisfying

The truth be known, if I'd followed my God-given talents from the beginning, I would have written for profit sooner than later.  Of course, life happens, and we all get a little sidetracked.  It's funny, though, that somehow I ended up right back where I belong: writing as a profession.  Between writing and some web design jobs, I've been able to satisfy that creative part of me that, especially as a younger adult, I sometimes ignored.

Freelance writing has provided an avenue for both self-expression and profit, and it's great to love the work for which you're being paid.

I've been blessed to work for companies all over the world: Dubai, San Francisco, Quebec, London... and to get to know a lot of wonderful and interesting folks.  I've learned about topics I might not otherwise have researched (yep, I've written about computers, semi-trucks, lingerie, and college life to name a few)... and I am always excited to find out about upcoming projects (not to mention who's behind them!)  I've also learned a lot about writing from those clients.  So thanks to those who have critiqued, rewritten, suggested, coached, and told me when my work was an absolute mess.  I wouldn't be the writer I am without you.

Now, here is some advice for my friends who write, draw, think, and create:  keep doing what you love, what you were made to do.  (Deep down, you know what it is.)  There's just nothing better than getting out of bed each morning and looking forward to what the day at work will hold.  Keep creating.  Make it good.
