WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS ARE NOT INTIMIDATED BY RECESSION

The inaugural issue of the Glow Project Magazine, reveals the results of the February 2009 Women’s Economic Business Study. The survey, responded to by 3,964 women business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals of small companies, shows that women entrepreneurs have a positive outlook despite economic woes. All the negative news and scary reports we read in the newspapers, watch on TV or hear on the radio ARE NOT impacting the spirit, drive and determination of women in business.

Sandra Yancey, the creator and producer of the Glow Project, states that to survive and thrive, successful women are not allowing negative news to permeate their thinking. Marilyn Tam, former CEO of Aveda, former President of Reebok, says:” The worst thing a woman or a man can do is allow negative news to cloud or consume their thinking.” The survey addressed the following questions:

  • What words best describe how you feel about the current economic situation? 72.5% replied: “charging ahead and keeping a positive outlook”.
  • Do you think this is a good time to start or grow/expand your business? 73.8% replied “yes”.
  • What are you doing to keep a positive outlook? 92.3%  responded: networking and investing in building more relationships and collaborating with others.
  • Even though the economy is in bad shape, they are constantly looking for new business opportunities and innovating ways to market them and thinking outside the box.
  • What advice do you have for business women who are struggling right now? Do things differently, look for other sources of income and get creative with offers.
  • Why now is the best time to start or grow and/or expand a business?  This is the perfect storm of opportunity to stretch creative muscles, partner and collaborate and create connections that seem unrelated.

Suze Orman, financial adviser and one of the world’s most influential people according to Time Magazine, the top female motivational speaker in USA according to Business Week, and winner of two Emmy Awards among many others awards, featured in Success Magazine (May 2009) affirms: “Given the state of the economy and skyrocketing unemployment rates, now could be a great time to start a small business. A home-based business is an incredible way – without risking any money so to speak – to see what hidden communication talents may be uncovered that could create an independent income stream”.

As a business owner, what are you doing to reject the recession?

Thank you to Tammy's secret pals!

A Gift Horse is a wonderful thing!  Tammy Johnson does not need to play the lottery...she has a secret pal AND a gift horse.  At every meeting, I receive gifts from both and it is so much fun trying to guess who both of the givers are.  Keep it up 'cause I am loving every minute of it.  Thank ya! Thank ya! Thank ya!

Directions to the Summer Picnic at Tammy Johnson's house:

Directions to the Summer Picnic at Tammy Johnson's house: The address is 324 Hicks Drive.  From First Baptist Church, Sevierville head towards Pigeon Forge.  At the 3 traffic light turn between BankFirst and the Welcome Welcome Center.  You will pass the Sevierville Church of Christ on the left.  Stay straight.  As soon as you pass the church you will be coming up a hill and will see a dead end sign.  The house is the 4th house on the left past the dead end sign.  There is nothing on the right.  There is a brick retaining wall around the house.  You can park at the house just past Tammy's at 344 Hicks Drive (it is vacant) as well as park in either driveway or along the street.  It is suggested you carpool from the First Baptist Church.  Don't forget your auction items and the cookout is $10/person.

***********************************************************************************************

One thing I know about the women in ABWA is that we never give up, we support each other, we keep growing together - personally and professionally, we lift each other up and we’re committed to helping our businesses grow. Ladies, thank you for being a huge part of my life.

Can you believe how fast this year is passing by? Does time seems to be speeding up or is it me getting wiser (the older you get the wiser you become)? Five months already gone and seven are to come. How are you looking at the remaining months of 2009?

We’ve all heard the adage, “You are what you eat.” That’s because the food you eat fuels your body and nourishes every cell, organ, and system within. So, it’s essential to keep your diet wholesome and well-balanced.

However, that’s far easier said than done. Buying and preparing fresh, nutritious meals can be a lot of effort and take plenty of time. And that’s time we often just don’t have. We are most likely “on the go” all the time.

I’ll be publishing this newsletter every month to give you tips on feeling and looking younger and more beautiful, staying healthy; how to manage stress effectively, exciting new business opportunities and many other topics.

Here are some of the things you can look forward to learning:

·          How to stay healthy even when you’re too busy

·          The latest discoveries to help you live longer, healthier lives

·          Why ‘sweet and delicious’ doesn’t equal ‘fattening’

·          How to create your own ‘economy’ by building the perfect home-based business

To your Success,

Gloria

So often it happens that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key.
